Surfing lessons

By makemoments

so yesterday was the big day for me learning how to surf. i was so excited about my surfing lessons. i had such high hopes and dreams of me riding the “big one” like i was born to surf. i was so young in my ways, so niave. notice this before picture of me holding my board so proudly. i’m bright, happy, and hopeful:

And after: distraught, disgruntled, and most of all DEFEATED:

i’m not trying to be modest or anything, i absolutely sucked at surfing. the waves weren’t the big problem, it was the current that kicked my butt. i would paddle for 15 mins trying to get to where the waves were breaking and i wouldn’t move a spot cause the current was so strong pulling me the other way. i was exhausted after 30 mins of being out there. plus, there was reef on the bottom and i cut my foot several times when falling off my board. like i said, it wasn’t the most enjoyable experience for me. but i’m going to try again in calmer water after i regain strength in my arms.

here our very brief surfing instructions:

here’s me paddling out to the waves:

and then trying to catch a wave:

trying to stand up:

and then of course, falling down:

I did stand up on my board briefly at one point, but i don’t think that it constituted as “surfing”. this is what the majority of my time spent in the water looked like:

so now that i’ve shared all the humiliating pictures of me trying to surf, i’m going to go lay on the beach today and relax and try to mend my wounds (both my physical wounds and my wounded pride). have a great day!
